Ben became interested in the medium of watercolour in 1979 when he first exhibited in Auckland, New Zealand.
He enjoys painting plein air amidst our majestic mountains of the South Island. All his work is painted from real life, whether landscape, portrait or still life.
As light and other conditions change, working fast does not allow for getting too caught up in the details. He finds that paintings made in this way is fresh and reflects the feeling of the subject he is portraying.
After more than 40 years of painting, he is still intrigued by this subtle and elusive medium as it envelops the page.
