Tj McConchie has worked as a graphic artist for over 30 years. Employed by the then Forest Research Institute in Rotorua, Tj literally got her hands dirty with signwriting paint, screenprinter ink and darkroom chemicals to produce the many displays depicting research projects needed for the general public Open Days. As technology advanced, she learnt computer graphics and started her own business, Natural Talent Design.
With a move from the Bay of Plenty to Lake Tekapo in 2005, Tj revelled in the beauty of the Mackenzie. A desire to portray the natural landforms, colours and shapes as works of art recently led to a shift away from the computer and onto canvas – and she is now taking pleasure from dirty hands once again.
Working in oils, she is exploring a more abstract genre and a desire to head in this direction using more colour, form and texture. Although a rock painting will keep turning up from time to time.
Tj is an outdoor enthusiast - tramping, mountain biking, running, kayaking, track building.
