Friday 17 September

Mackenzie Community Centre

The festival will open with a Karakia from the Mackenzie College Kapa Haka group followed by words from Graham Smith, the Mackenzie Mayor. This will be followed directly by our first event of the festival. In her book This Pākehā Life: An Unsettled Memoir, Alison Jones explores how in the course of her private and working life she gave meaning to what it means to be Pākehā. At this event Alison will talk to Ruth Entwistle Low about her experiences that led to the publication of this book that was short-listed for the 2021 NZ Ockham Book Awards. Alison Jones is professor in Te Puna Wānanga, School of Māori and Indigenous Education at the University of Auckland. Ruth Entwistle Low is an author and journalist from Timaru.
