Swim in the wild, walk in the dark
Saturday 2 October
Twizel Events Centre
Join Annette Lees, ecologist, author, wild swimmer and nocturnal enthusiast for an exploration of Aotearoa by night. In new book, After Dark, Annette shares stories of those who inhabit the night, from owls and bats to lighthouse keepers and Polynesian navigators, travelling with ghosts and spirits through mysterious landscapes and under the light of thousands of stars and the moon. After Dark weaves memoir, social history, Maori mythology and the natural world to describe the enchantments of Aotearoa at night. For those who want to join Annette in a swim and a night walk, this event is book ended by a wild swim (dip!) in Lake Ruantaniwha in the morning and a walk in the dark just after dusk in Twizel. The swim and walk are free events and meeting locations will be advised.
