Yarns at Smoko – The Role of Oral History in New Zealand Farming
Saturday 18 September
Ruth Entwistle Low has spent the last 15 years capturing the life histories of drovers, shearers and farmers. The interviews, funded through Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s, New Zealand Oral History Awards, are now safely housed in the Alexander Turnbull Library. In this exclusive event, Ruth will share her experiences of travelling the country capturing the stories, the process of recording an oral history, the role and importance of these conversations, and then how she turns them into best-selling books. Ruth has published two books, On the Hoof - The untold story of drovers in New Zealand and The Shearers - New Zealand Legends and is currently working on her third farming themed book.
